It's the Cult of the Flat Frequency Response. Popular amongst Arch Objectivists. Because frequency response is relatively easy to measure with laboratory equipment.

Their systems tend to have not too bad frequency responses, but may be poor to mediocre when it comes to dynamics, clarity, naturalness - which are more difficult to measure with laboratory equipment.

Well, not entirely bullshit. Getting a flatter frequency response is commendable. And understanding what the resonant frequency of the cabinet is, is useful. Especially if combined with how resonant it is and therefore how much the cabinet will be singing along with the music at certain frequencies.

But this is all part of the jigsaw as to how realistic the speaker will sound overall. And it's not something that I would elevate over other factors, such as are we using a port? If so, how? Or are we using drivers with a shut-in sound?

Also, it seems that some listeners may be less sensitive to dynamic compression than others. And that some may value flat frequency and detail resolution over having a system that will let its hair down and really belt out a tune a la Joe Cocker at Woodstock.

Hi Lindsayt - thanx for that - but from what you said it is important ONLY to speaker builders not to somebody with finished and ready commercial speaker as per guy from YT so in his case just a BS me thinks ;]
