Anyway it should be noted that I can be just as biased and childish as they can. Anyone whoever has banned me from a forum or from a Bake-off is banned from my room at the show, and anyone who has censored me and stopped me posting freely will be allowed in the room but if they try to speak they will be asked to leave

Two can play stoooopid childish games.

Here is a classic example of biased moderation. There was a similar thread a week or so ago that I contributed to, my posts were removed and the thread locked. Now I am not posting it seems they can discuss it.

They are discussing regenertors not mains .ie they are discussing a product anyone can buy.
Even a stroke didn't result in me liking AOS

I am not talking about the last thread in this saga, there were about four threads before that that were closed and my posts removed. One of them was about regen and BMU.

Even the mods are now joining in, talking about changing the mains, which they disciplined me for and binned my posts. There is pure hypocrisy here, and selective biased moderation.

They should get their act together, decide what is not acceptable and stick to it and make it not selective in its application as has happened. I took a non loony normal approach to the matter (stupid me) and would not talk about what is listed as requiring an electrician to either do or sign off, and talked about things that are allowed for user repair or checking. It seems they don't have the knowledge to know about this, even though it is easily found on line. That is all I did yet I get a gag in my mouth and put in the village stocks, yet they do the same.

Another proof of biased moderation. If I had posted in this thread half the things being said here they would be removed and used as ban or gag excuse.

This below is EXACTLY the type of post I was trying to make, helping people to what is legal and safe. Yet I get gagged, so why hasn't he gagged himself. The difference is they are not looking for an excuse to shut him up.

We'll let this run, as it is the DIY section, but please pay careful attention to any suggestions made here.

As for the topic, there are some suggestions that shielding power cables can be of benefit. I actually use a few, because my system for years has included a low-output moving coil source and a step-up transformer: a very easy method of picking up mains hum.

If you do use shielded cables, the shield absulutely MUST be connected to the mains earth at the supply end (i.e., the distribution box). Within the distribution box, as long as the metal casing is earthed and all cables have the earth wire and shield connected to earth, it is OK. Do not, however, connect the supply wires to earth using the casing. There is more chance of potential failure and I doubt whether that would meet relevant regulations.

This does effectively equal star grounding, but there is no sonic benefit I could imagine. Simply issues of practicality and safety.

Ay the other end (the cable plugging into equipment) i would also connect the shield directly to the earth pin in the connector. The situation here is completely different to signal cables, where shields connected at both ends can sometimes result in ground loops, though that's a nightmare as it depends entirely on the equipment and how chassis and signal ground are dealt with.

A question for the uninformed and ignorant on this subject. Please explain why in France and most of the EU there is no such things as electricians that have to be obliged here by law like Policemen, even though most of them are as thick as shite. There are specialist that you can use if you want, like normal traders. Well I can give you the answer, they have a simple system, lecky comes in the house, is measured so you can be charged for it, it has fuses and trips, and then SIMPLY goes off to the thing that uses it. You can wire your own house (and build it) in France. Here we INVENTED a daft dangerous system so we had to invent daft people to install it. That is why we are a laughing stock in the rest of the world and NO ONE else follows us, apart from a bit by the Irish.

And that is why it all has British Standard numbers and Kite mark and not CE mark. This whole paranoid saga is ludicrous and has become another stoooopid forum folk law. I think it all started because the original lump of an owner at Wigwam was scared silly some one was going to sue him so some of the daft rules there are down to him, and just being continued, and the disease has spread to PFM and others. Not only do they not know the law regarding electrics they obviously do not know the law regarding Forum responsibility. Once again it is the ignorance of the Moderators, nothing else, they think they are so clever, well perhaps they should learn about reality before they judge.

Yes there is. There are electrical standards here and in France and Italy and Germany that I know of.
I don't think the electricians I know here would appreciate being called as thick as shite.

Perhaps you should read the post and try and understand it before commenting. To help you I have hi-lighted the points you seem to have missed.

I have never met a non English electrician because there are no other countries with electricians like ours who have legal responsibility for the shit designed systems they have to install. Most I have met are as thick as tree trunks, mostly like car mechanics looking for ways to rip you off.
