What Hi-fi forum

Unread post by Lindsayt » Tue Dec 30, 2014 10:31 am

When I first joined the What Hi-fi forum it was firmly rooted in the culture of "buy new from a dealer" like Richer Sounds / Sevenoaks.

This thread, where Eduardo from Chile has bought a pair of Pioneer Exclusive 3401 speakers from Japan is encouraging.

Spiny Norman's comments are bang on the money: "Blatant abuse of the forum by an established audio company. Disgraceful! This cynical thread should be deleted and the user banned – or don't WHSV care any more?"

Just in case, the thread get's deleted, here's Simon Ashton's opening post under the thread title "Little British Monitor Project":

"I've been working on a project for the past 6 months to build a tiny desktop speaker. The concept was to make it look like a traditional BBC design that had been miniaturized by a shrink-ray, but use the best modern bits inside to produce a great sound. I'm calling it the 'LBM' or Little British Monitor. Last week I took my working final prototype to visit Paul Messnenger and he liked them a lot, but now I your help! To turn this into a product I've launched a Kickstarter page and it would be great if you give it a look (search for 'Little British Monitor' as I can't link here) I am also make the LBM available as a self-build kit for people to enjoy constructing as a hobby. Since they are small they could easily be built on a table top. I'm a young guy (28), a sole trader and I really need your support to make this happen :) Please, please let this stay where it can been seen! Finally, it would be amazing if I could get a mention in the What Hi-Fi newsletter email. Can anyone advise the best way to ask about this, do the publishers read this forum? Thank you! Simon"

I was a little bit surprised when I saw this thread, as I've not seen Simon Ashton / Audiosmile engage in this type of misleading hi-fi forum marketing before.

Desperation, he has been at it for at least 5 years with the backing of his "in love" admirer Rob Holt (wishfull thinking). So if he can't make money at it now he should give up and get a real job.
