For a laugh go no further than the thread Martin T has started on pursuing hi-res digital with caution. His point about hi-res introducing harshness has some validity and seems to be something he is experiencing since upgrading his DAC and switching from Spotify to Qobuz. But his solutions      . Fancy kettle leads, audiophool fuses, cat litter boxes, black ravioli balanced cables and god knows what all come into the mix. FFS.

My system can be described as high resolution digital and I do not experience harshness. The rest of my system probably costs less than all the :Bllocks: accessories he swears by. If ever there was a case of missing the wood for the trees.

There's not any pareto to Martin T's system building.

So he's got these Usher modern slimline ported speakers and he's been getting some harshness / over forward sound and he doesn't think of trying different speakers? Or even a different signal path to his speakers, like one with fewer or better sounding transistors, or maybe even a different DAC?

And instead he focuses on the stand the DAC is on, the cables, the mains conditioning in his system?

It's like something from a C Northcote Parkinson book. Where committees spend 2 minutes approving a multi million pound nuclear reactor contract and 2 hours debating the tea and biscuits they should use at future meetings.

I counted 3 or 4 of his forum mates agreeing with him about cables and supports and mains conditioning as the route to fixing harshness etc.

He would have wanted a lot more if it had an audiophile fuse.

I bought a diy dac stack a few weeks ago, it came kitted with 'get along' op-amps, clocks etc. I've swapped op-amps added more filtering to psu, a couple of local regs, better supply decoupling, more accurate clocks and opamps with an more optimal HF filter. It sounds pretty damn amazing now.

No fuses, no fancy power cables, no rfi absorbing bullshit or otherwise questionable science products. Just sound engineering choices backed up by good measurement.

Those who can, do, those who can't foo.
