Toby The Wonder Dog plays

Unread post by Mississippi Blind Child Assburn »

Its not a far stretch of the imagination to declare that a A DOG has musical taste above that of your average audiophyle.

My wiener dog, Toby (aka Pony-Pony, aka Ponious) grooves to much the same music Yours Truely does.

Right now the Strawberry Statement 2lp soundtrack is doing it for him - Neil Young, CCN&Y, Thunderclap Newman, Buffy St Marie, and Beatles "Give Peace A Chance.

Oppps!

Toby tells me "Give Peace A Chance" is by "The Cast". Not Beatles.

Repetition 2nd warning - if you can't live and let live then you will be taking a holiday. We each enjoy what we each enjoy. You've obviously got wide tastes, lots of knowledge and a passion for collecting - channel those attributes in a positive way and you will be an asset to the forum.

I've been playing Randy Newman's 2nd lp, "12 songs" this morning.

Toby gives me the condescending look as if to say , "What are you doing listening to THAT? It is expressly irksome to me. I should have thought only a subhuman intelligence would get off on that degraded tripe."

Well, you know what Toby? I quite like it ,so you can go chew a bone.

Toby wants me to play "The Wizard" again. Its his fav Sabbs track.

If I turn the record over he shows his displeasure.

"But, look here Toby. Side one gots 'Planet Caravan' on it. Doesn't get much better than that, boyo-me-lad."

It must be getting a little lonely with only you and Toby on this thread, although it does go to show Toby has a better taste in music than your good self Mississippi.

GYPSY - SAME is Toby's pick today.
Not sure if I can call this prog. Wot you say, Toby?

Aye, its getting there.

And how many double lp FIRST releases can you count on your fingers? Err....paws.

The second release , "In The Garden" is even bettter and more in the prog realm.

Then they went shit-downhill fast with the 3rd and 4th releases.

(I used to think Phil Keaggy was in this group, but that was Glass Harp, right Toby?)

I should, at this juncture, make the statement that Toby does not like being called "The Wonder Dog" (from outer space.) True, he survived a trip to space and back, but he sees this as no act of heroism. He was ,afterall, forced on that spacecraft against his will.
Toby feels the word "hero" has been degraded and is used too freely . It has lost its meaning simply from over-use. Way Toby sees it a TRUE hero is one that risks his very life to save another and does so when the act is UN-WITNESSED.

Take the case of poor Laika. Do you think she wanted to go to space in a crappy USSR tincan...cramped and COOKED TO DEATH within hours...to die alone and in great pain. Is this an act of "heroism"?

Yet the little dog will be remembered.

Anyways...bit off topic here but just wanted to explain why Toby does not countenance Hawkwind or any of that SPACErock ilk.

Ponious is flossing the best Italian prog lp:

Il Rovechio Della Medaglia - Contaminiazione (Contaminated)* . Concept about a mad Scotsman who believes himself a reincarnation of Bach.

* forgive if the spelling is incorrect. After all Ponious is only a dog.
