Bluedot, the combined music and science festival - described on the website as FOUR DAYS OF MUSIC, SCIENCE, COSMIC CULTURE AND FAMILY ENCOUNTERS BENEATH THE LOVELL TELESCOPE - will be headlined by a collaboration between Bjork and The Halle Orchestra performing a "unique" work, this year.

The Cheshire event, held at Jodrell Bank Observatory, will also see Groove Armada and Metronomy headline.

Among the non-musical highlights will be a show about sci-fi classic The Hitchhiker's Guide to The Galaxy and a series of talks curated by women's rights activist Helen Pankhurst. Tim Peake will be speaking too.

The festival's organisers said the "uniquely commissioned performance" by the Icelandic singer and the Manchester-based orchestra would close the event and feature "incredible bespoke projections on the Lovell Telescope".

Now in its fifth year at the World Heritage site, the festival will also include music from Spiritualized, Roisin Murphy, Ride, 808 State, Anna Meredith and Pussy Riot, alongside performances from Phill Jupitus, the event's artist-in-residence, and a "comedic, musical exploration" of David Bowie's "messianic status". Not mentioned by the Beeb, Tangerine Dream, Lanterns On The Lake and The Psychedelic Porn Crumpets are also appearing, plus many more musical acts/DJs/comedians.
The organisers said the festival's full programme of events would be announced "in the coming weeks".

The festival runs from 23 to 26 July.

There is video on the site of one of last years "talks" celebrating 50 years of The Clangers.

Check the site out for much more info, this festival looks rather good. Were I still the festival-going type, and were I only allowed to go to one festival this year, this might well be it. It looks like there really is tons of interesting stuff going on as well as some good music.

We're having to skip our usual Green Man this year, but Bluedot is much closer to us anyway, so may well be worth a day ticket - thanks for the head's up.
