Remasters ? What's best ?

I read somewhere that the latest remasters of Led Zep by Jimmy Page make JPJ's bass more prominent. Is that the case ? I would love to have his playing unearthed because i find it is hidden too much on some of the recordings. I have a 1st pressing of II but i don't really want to compare vinyl to digital.

Anyway, is there much knowledge here on HFS about recordings and the different masters or pressings ? If so i want to hear about it (all music, not just Zep).

The Zep catalogue has been remastered several times - by Jimmy Page. Try getting hold of 'Remasters' (1990] or 'Mothership' (2007). These are both double-disc samplers for separate remaster editions. Interesting to compare

Remasters. Anything done by Cherry Red / Esoteric label is excellent. Not Now Music do superb remasters of classic Jazz albums.

Be cautious of post-2010 editions as these can be EQ'd to sound best as MP3's through earbuds (way too much bass and too loud)

Currently there is a wave of 24bit HQ digital coming for online streaming services.

Remasters, that's Latin for expensive and inferior on vinyl.
