No one has mentioned The Average White Band. Quite apart from wearing kilts on stage, they have a massive back catalogue. Here's one of my favourites (often sampled).

I shall be going to see The Haggis Horns next week, I've just picked up on The New Mastersounds. Then there's The Apples.
And who could resist an Italian Marching Jazz Funk band

Some good suggestions, cheers

This one is rather obscure from 1999. Four individuals all under 18 years of age. A huge dose of the meters in this one.

Can't go any further without mentioning the mutha of all funky drum breaks. The most sampled piece of music in history.

Clyde Stubblefield's Funky Drummer. Four and a half minutes in James Brown counts the drum break in "don't let it loose cos it's a mother"

After Bootsy Collins left the J.B's he joined Parliament /Funkadelic. He also did some solo albums. They are out there baby. I need to be in a certain mood to play them.

Here's one from 1978 . Booty Collins - Bootzilla

Next, one from the ridiculous band that is Funkadelic. This is 'The Electric Spanking Of War Babies'    Comedy title. The intro to this makes me laugh every time i hear it. The last truly great Funkadelic album from 1981.

Funkadelic were responsible for one of my favourite songs of all time, Maggot Brain. The Eddie Hazel guitar playing is mindblowing, as is the whole track really. I don't think there's anything else quite like it. Some would say that's a good thing, mind you.
