Lenticular rock album covers

Unread post by Mississippi Blind Child Assburn »

I can think of only two right now: Her Majesties Satanic Request and Captain Beyond.

Apparently there is a Bowie one and an AC/DC.

A lenticular image on a record cover is about 1 mm ridged surface of plastic. Each ridge acts as a small prism
giving an illusion of depth. This faux 3D effect also allows movement of image as you view from different angles. It can also smudge-haze images thus making it apt for "psychedelic" art since it is disconcerting as all proper psych should be ( only thing is, I don't know of any psych lenticular covers: the reason being, its expensive and you would think only well-known bands could afford the cost. I recall, back in the day, getting the (mono) "Satanic Majesties whilst vacationing in Chilliwack,British Columbia. It was 6 dollars whereas your average brand new lp went for $4.)

Apparently, by looking at the 4 faces on Satanic Majesties at the proper angle, you can make out The Beatles! however, try as he might, Blind Child is not seeing it. (Alright, maybe that is McCartney under the first face.)

Never heard about The Beatles before. Just tried it and get Charlie looking right towards Keith, Keith looking left towards Charlie . Mick totally unchanged (because he is central?). Brian looks down in to his gown and Bill looks left at Brian.
Also just noticed that when Brian looks down a laughing face (possibly Brian's) appears above him.

Thanks for that Assburn, five or so interesting minutes - may listen to the album later today, mine claims to be "full frequency stereophonic sound".

Not rock, but UB40 album, UB44 has 3D image on - it doesn't seem to have lasted particularly well though, I can barely see any image on it now.

Darryl: the first face - Charlie Watts - look more carefully (at the right angle) . That's McCartney, no?

....

Wot abart dayglow psychedelic covers?
I think GOLDEN DAWN -POWER PLANT (with the marijuana leaves) was one of those.

STEVE MILLER BAND -CHILDREN OF THE FUTURE front cover becomes animated when a strobe light is shone on it.
