Rainbow was a revolving door and Graham Bonnet and Cozy Powel had gone before Difficult to cure. It is the album before.

Correct. Graham Bonnet replaced Ronnie James Dio who would continue the dungeons and dragon theme with Black Sabbath, replacing Ozzy Osbourne. Graham Bonnet departed after this album as Blackmore did not like his short hair and dress sense. Cozy Powell left because he did not like the direction Rainbow were taking. He would join some Blackmore former Deep Purple colleagues in Whitesnake. Dio would be replaced in Sabbath by former Deep Purple vocalist Ian Gillan. Rainbow continued for three more albums after Down to Earth before Deep Purple Mk 2 reformed. Rock musical chairs. 
This was nevertheless an exciting time with many good albums.

Yes it is. Next is the seventeenth album by an US soul/funk group. Gorgeous vocals were their focus.
