In fact, thinking about it, Michael Jackson's Thriller sums it up for me.

I hated all the hype that surrounded this album when it was released.

And the music style on this album is not quite my cup of tea.

But the album itself is still well written, well produced, well recorded, well performed. It's a great album. The substance stands up - to a large extent - to the hype.

That's something that few, if any modern mainstream albums do. All hype and not enough substance.

Because any eeeediot (mostly girls it seems) in their bedrooms with a computer and keyboard think they are composers and artists - no they are kids in their bedrooms.

You guys are just not listening to the right music. Take The Artic Monkeys new Album. Tranquility Base Hotel and Casino. A magnificent album that stands up well to the top albums from the seventies in fact one of my favourite albums Hunky Dory has had a huge influence.Wise up and broaden your horizons.

Compressed to hell on the CD version. And therefore reinforcing one of the main points made in the video in the OP.

Modern mainstream music can be summed up in two words, tuneless trash.

Since 1997 when Universal (then owned by Seagram) bought Polygram and the music business fell into the hands of a few bean counters quality has been increasingly awful. Of course there is some good stuff but the pop 'singles' charts have for the last decade at least been populated by autotuned scantily clad young women, boy bands or freaky looking individuals. The end of TOTPs and counting downloads and streaming has made this worse (14 year olds with parents bank card and a mouse). Latest earworm with the most online and TV publicity gets the sales until people tire of the artist. Even Taylor Swift is suffering plummeting album sales and half empty stadiums. The best material is usually released by legacy artists and independent labels. I wonder if the big labels would still be in business without reliance on back catalogue remasters? There is a difference between truly awful music and good music that is awful to the older generation. The later won't apply today because anyone under 75 grew up in the rock and roll era.

The charts are irrelevant now - which is why TOTP died. What you are complaining about is the artistic collapse of the mainstream. Same with TV. Ignore the dross and discover the scores of new artists that are creating fresh, brilliant art.
