Not for headphone listening it aint tho. Doubt very much my turntable will ever see the light of day again.

Don't agree: I nearly only listen to records and this very often with headphones and it still sounds better than CDs. Much more lively and engaging.

Can't remember how long ago it is since I last fired up the TT. But I rip CD's direct to my network disc and stream in-house to different audio setups. Hardly ever play an actual CD these days.

Driving music - I set the same digital files onto a Fiio pocket player hooked into the car radio, sounds great.
That is the advantage with digital - that you can get high-quality music wherever you go, even on your smartphone.
But no MP3's, please - lifeless, soulless sound.

Although 'audiophiles' will often judge digital playback in terms of how 'analogue' it sounds. So it looks like Vinyl is still the standard for SQ.

The most important thing is the master. All things being equal my strong preference is digital, although I occasionally play vinyl. SQ aside, in terms of VFM it is a no brainer and it is nice to be able to control things from a phone or tablet, through a system of head phoones, where ever you are.

I've had a Squeezebox since 2006 so have done a fair bit of streaming and ripped all my CDs however if I want to sit down and enjoy some music I still prefer my TT. Nothing to do with quality, I don't think, I just like the process.

I will admit that the click, click, click just as I'm drifting off is a ballache though :-)

Even the slightest Crackle or Click drives me nuts, The reason i cannot listen to records via Phones.

It doesn't disturb me at all. I know these clicks and cracks since I started listening to music so they are part of it. Digital can only come near an analogue signal. It's said that the human ear isn't capable to hear the difference from a certain bit rate on but IMO you can feel it.
