Re: Utterlessly Pointless discussion about Prog
The neo prog bands are simply not in the same class. Having said that, I do enjoy the Neal Morse era Spocks Beard / Transatlantic and the early Echolyn albums. I don't consider Rush as prog myself either. Each to his own.

Prog is a religion, with branches and cults, do you seriously think you will agree with each other.

Re: Utterlessly Pointless discussion about Prog
late 1960's- early 1970's Progressive Music. Major British Record labels were set up to put out for this new style of music:
EMI created Harvest
RCA created Neon
Philips/Phonogram created Swirl Vertigo
Decca created Deram/Nova
Take note that i dont include the word 'Rock' because it was Progressive music, which was a culmination of lots of different styles of music styles from Classical adaptations [Egg, ELP etc], to Jazz [Nucleus, Mike Westbrook etc]to Folk [Forest, Tudor Lodge etc]
How come then were these spin off labels done with by 1973?, The Italians were the ones that kept things going for another couple years but the style was kinds a bit different to British Prog! 1975 - 1976 i call dead years, Most the surviving progressive band were changing direction, the advent of Punk Rock put the nail i the coffin. Music is like fashion it changes, survivors of Prog had no option but to sell out to commercialism, Genesis a perfect example of this, Its a job at the end of the day, they need to sell records.. Here comes the 1980's Neo Progressive Rock & on & on decade after decade re inventing an imitation that gets more & more away from the original thing. but in no way are any of them the genuine article in any respect.
