That is enough, I have been patient but you are going too far, you have had two where I haven't applied our rules but it is obvious you will continue to be personal and make personal comment to anyone who disagrees with you. This one is fairly mild but you should realise people ARE ALLOWED to disagree with you. But this is the last, mild or not, the next personal comment aimed and one of our members and you will be gone AGAIN and no more chances.
"One group that tried to go punk but failed rather uncomfortably were Gentle Giant with the album 'Civilian'.
Not their best work."
Okay, you say they tried to go punk.
Not sure about that but all I know is that this lp certainly does not have any of the punk trappings - to my ear, its GG going straight rock.
Also...everyone trashes "Civilian". WRONG. This is an excellent lp, albiet not prog persay.
Similar story when anadian prog group FM went rock; "City of Fear" is a good lp.
You have to remember the musical climate prevalent when 'Civilian' came out. GG were having to compete with bands like The Clash and The Jam and went for it with a harder straight rock sound, as you said.
Unfortunately it didn't pay off and signalled the demise of the band.

There are some pop new wave influences on Giant For A Day and The Missing Piece as well don't you think?

They were certainly making moves into that direction, but I think that 'In a Glass House' has an edgy, experimental feel that predates and points towards New Wave
But nobody else sounded like Gentle Giant.

My opinion is that punk breathed new life into the music industry. On a creative level and on a business level with many of the bands starting their own labels and going down the diy route. By passing the greed of the big labels snd causing them to rethink their business models.
