Too right Slinger - had '16 Men of Tain´ on a day or two ago. An exquisitely mellow work - perfect match for a good single malt !!slinger wrote:The perfect Alan Holdsworth album. It combines wonderfully fluid guitar with that other wonderful fluid, my favourite malt Whisky, Glenmorangie
The distillation process [of Glenmorangie] was for decades undertaken by a staff of 16, known as The Sixteen Men of Tain, who worked year round, with the exceptions of Christmas and periods of maintenance.

Re: Jazz Rock
Just run into this on Youtube.
[BBvideo 425,350]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L_XJ_s5IsQc[/BBvideo]
Seriously high-class Jazzy and funky music from a big-band outfit called Snarky Puppy.
This performance is odd - it's live but the audience are sitting in and around the band members and everyone has headphones on.
Definite shades of Weather Report / Return to Forever here.
Anyhow - I'm off to see what Snarky Puppy recordings I can get hold of. Groovy, man !!

Just bought the Allan Holdsworth CD and the Snarky Puppy CD/DVD combo. There is a vinyl version of the latter, but pretty rare (and expensive)

Re: Jazz Rock
Fretless, you might also be interested in the group Patto from the early 70's. In vocalist Mike Patto you have one of the greatest vocalists that you've never heard of, and in guitarist Ollie Halsall, well the word great does not do the man justice.
Try this twofer CD..
It is their first two albums, Patto and Hold Your Fire.
Might well be right up your street.

Re: Jazz Rock
BilliyBones - Mike Patto - yes, I've heard the name - and Ollie Halsall as well. But they aren't familiar to me. Thanks for the Tip - I will be seeing what I can get to listen to.
Theo - Very curious what you make of the Snarky Puppy album. Is it 'Ground Up' or 'Sylvia'?
The latter album was recorded with Holland's Metropole Orchestra and the double LP is available here:
http://sounds.nl/detail/3397693/lp/snar ... pole/sylva
Costs about 30 euro + 10 euro P&P throughout Europe.

Re: Jazz Rock
Fretless - I went for "We Like it Here" on CD/DVD, via Bandcamp (very reasonable cost). Heard the whole thing of Youtube first, and loved it. "Sylvia" and "Musical Dinner" look interesting too.
