Radio Paradise

Unread post by Dr Bunsen Honeydew »

Bloody hell Brit why did you tell me about this, I can't stop listening. I had given up listening to radio though my system because the quality is such crap, but this internet station set to 192k is astonishingly good, and the music is so varied and good.

If you do a bit of digging there's an exclusive steam for naim users at 320k. It sounds fabulous. I think you can find the url for it by searching radio paradise naim exclusive and adding the url to your media player of choice with a shoutcast pluggin.

Btw as it's a listener supported station they depend on donations so I give them 5 dollars a month, the price of a pint of beer but more than worth it for the great programming and music.

They also have a lively forum community and discuss streaming and stuff on there. I often contribute.

Pleased you enjoy it. Their mobile apps are also good.

RP is responsible for most of the music I end up buying or artists I've discovered. Lost count of how many times I've heard something on there, checked out the artist and ended up buying an album via their amazon link or a gig ticket if the artist is playing live.

It's exactly how music should work on the Internet and they pay royalties far and above what the likes of Spotify and others do.

One such instance was the excellent Harry Manx, a bluesman who plays Indian 20 string sitars too. As a result I've bought all of his albums and have tickets for a show he's playing in Teesside in November.

If you join the site you can rate and vote on the music they play and keep track of the things you've rated.

I'll see if I can get some guidance up today for accessing the naim exclusive stream.

Sorry to be a nerd here, but I can only find Harry Manx playing a Mohan Veena (which has a sound box like a guitar, a sitar has a rounded soundbox.)

It's the same instrument which Vishwa Moham Bhatt plays (as in with Ry Cooder on 'A meeting by the River')

Here he is being modest about this

Yes, the mohan veena. I apologise for generalising it as sitar :grin:

Radio Paradise on RaspberryPi

You will need to create a .pls file (m3u doesn't seem to work). This works for me.

Code: Select all

[playlist]
numberofentries=1
File1=http://stream-uk1.radioparadise.com/mp3-192
Title1=(#1 - 156/300) Radio Paradise
Length1=-1
Version=2
Anyone know the url to the 320 version, if it is still going - a quick web search draws a blank. (Seemed to work a year or so ago but not now.)

[Edit] found it: http://stream-tx3.radioparadise.com/aac-320

And I should have said thanks for the pointer to Harry Manx, I got a bit distracted following the links :grin:
