Emerson didn't use a Mellotron with ELP. I believe Greg Lake did though. I recall Emerson played one on The Nice's "Diamond Hard Blue Apples of the Moon"

There is some incredible Mellotron on Rick Wakeman's "White Rock" ice cold.

Yes ELP did use one. Emo hated it. Greg only used it twice on a few occasions live.

The Moody Blues used it to good effect. Made some good albums.

Would you say a mellotron is basically all sustain and no attack?

If so, that would make using mello on fast runs improbable.

Indeed I rarely hear it played so.

Only one that comes to mind right now - where there is quick mellotron playing - is Italian group Il Volo's "same" lp.
