I would agree. quote="slinger"]When I can afford a real one and develop the patience that allows me to nurture the little bugger and not kick it for being more temperamental than me I'll stop cheating. [/quote]

Re: Mellotron
Didn't know that but believe the company was revived to restore and service the old ones. Those samples that Slinger has are actually used in modern digital recordings. Frankly they have numerous samples and apps that are supposed to replicate old pieces of recording equipment so anything that has a retro sound these days is likely a complete fake. The most famous use is the intro to 'Strawberry Fields' - that machine is owned by Paul Mccartney. Nothing like the real thing but as said they were very difficult to keep functioning in a live context and generally got ditched when decent synths came along.Fretless wrote:Mike Pinder of the Moody Blues designed and built an alternative version of the Mellotron, and King Crimson's Robert Fripp is an acknowledged expert in repairing and restoring them.

Re: Mellotron
You forget Keith Emerson, who violently abused his organ () with knives and all sorts. Didn't Hammond stop servicing it or threaten to do so after he kept returning it regularly after tours (and after they'd seen what he did to it when performing)?
Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way...The time has gone, The song is over, Thought I'd something more to say...
Re: Mellotron
If you put me in a room with 100 Yamaha's and 1 Hammond.
I would not only lead you to the Hammond but would also make you a plate of Mince n Tatties..

Re: Mellotron
My favourite Hammond solo is from National Health's Dave Stewart on the following track. The first 2 1/2 minutes are an extended organ jam which gets pretty violent before the track turns into a premium slice of Caravan-style Canterbury-Scene jazz-rock.

You don't need knives - incense will do.
And, did not the Master Hendrix rip a revolving speaker out of a Hammond and use it to get one of his effects.
