And i would put the Sitar in the same bin, maybe it's because their tone warbles, not a pure tone or constant pitch is the problem for me.

While I tend to agree that drum solos can be awful, short and in context,they can be a very powerful/emotional.

Thinking of Kenny Jones (not the worlds most admired drummer!) and the solo in the Faces track "Losing you", really gets the frustration and anger of the song across.
