Edgar Froese, 1944 - 2015

Unread post by _D_S_J_R_ »

Just heard, the man behind Tangerine Dream, has passed away -

Text from an group email I received -

'Dear Friends,

This is a message to you we are deeply sorry for…
On January 20th, Tuesday afternoon, Edgar Froese suddenly and unexpectedly passed away from the effects of a pulmonary embolism in Vienna.
The sadness in our hearts is immensely.

Edgar once said: “There is no death, there is just a change of our cosmic address."

Edgar, this is a little comfort to us.

Yours,
EB (ADMIN) & the whole EASTGATE MUSIC TEAM'

Ulp. As a TD fan I am deeply shocked. I regard the one concert I ever saw (Bradford 1986) as one of the best I have ever attended and his music stll plays a major role in my life.

All music fans should mark with respect the passing of this important figure in modern music.
He leaves a great wealth of material to explore and enjoy.

First hearing of Phaedra shortly after release forever changed me and my musical life. Edgar's talents weren't just in his playing, but also in the blending the best of hours of session material in the early days, into some of my all time greatest albums.

For now - MAROUBRA BAY!

Well we all peg it eventually - but I am deeply sadden.

To say TD were quite bloody good..............Would be a bit like saying Elvis was cool.

"Tangerine Dream's - Thief" Will forever impress - if you have heard a better film score, please let me know.

R.I.P. - EF.

From Ron Boots. The Groove Unlimited newsletter for this week.

Edgar Froese - 1944 - 2015

We have lost a great soul.
A founder, A Musical Poet and a Visionary father.
A man of renowned stature.
A friend, A mentor but first of all A Unique Musician/Artist.
We can all feel the free spirit in the music of Tangerine Dream.
The free spirit in the music of Edgar Froese.

There is Poetry, there is Sculpture and there are Paintings.
But no art form goes so directly to ones heart as music does.
It touches our soul, our inner self, our true being.
And Edgar has touched so many in his life through his music.
He surely did touch mine.

From the 3 biggest influences in Electronic music he was the closest to me.
Vangelis I admire from a far but never met.
Schulze has been an inspiration and the few times I met him he was a great joy to be around.
But Edgar was a friend, gave me opportunities, always encouraged me to go on the path I choose.

We are the fortuned ones who lived to see him create and perform his music.
The music that will live on in times to come.
And now he is with the gods and angels making the heavens a more beautiful place.
He will dine at the same table as Beethoven, Bach, Miles Davis, Freddy Mercury, Jimmy Hendrix,
Frank Zappa and all those other true visionaries of music that have passed away.

We as mortal coil will have to wait until we will meet up with him again.
But let us rejoice in the fact that we can remember him and his music for ages to come.
Let the Dream continue every time we listen to the music of Edgar!
We will not forget.
I will not forget!

With my deepest respect and love I wish Bianca, Jerome, Thorsten and all his beloved ones all the best in these troublesome times.
Keep in mind that he touched millions with his music on this Earth, and although this world has become paler.
The heavens will light up with the musical flame he is bringing to them.
I will think of you with all my heart and hope that the despair and sorrow will pass soon.
And his remembrance will be an inspiration for times to come.

Yours Ron Boots.

I received this email too.

I haven't met any of the 'EM Giants' personally, the nearest I got was to an excellent TD concert in Aylesbury in late '75 (only part of it remains 'out here' as a fairly poor bootleg) and marvelling at the sound and instruments used (Peter Baumann had a useful set of sequencers as well as CF I remember). I suppose in recent years I've had more to do with Klaus Schulze's style as I've slowed down and given his long pieces 'time' to get to know.

I wonder if Tangerine Dream is over as a band, or will son Jerome come back? Jerome's done some interesting stuff as a solo artist and also with the 'Loom' project (something I need to research more). Ulrich Schnauss was also touring as part of the band last Autumn and he's done amazing stuff in recent years..

On my way to and back from NVA Towers yesterday I played 'Pinnacles,' which I think was a zenith for Edgar. He'd moved on from the Big Moog by this time I think, yet had a huge pallet of 'new' sounds to choose from, which he used well I think in this record.
