Another superb listen:

'The Sessions III' by Tangerine Dream

Tangerine Dream - THE SESSIONS III (full album)

The new, post-Edgar TD are finding their own direction and producing music of very high quality. The Sessions series of live EP's contain long, improvised workouts recorded in concert which refer to the past and look to the future.

Those who like the classic TD sound from the likes of 'Encore' and 'Ricochet' will certainly enjoy this.

Okay then: the TD 'In Search of Hades' 16-CD 4-Blu-Ray box is
1) damn expensive
2) sold out
3) getting rave reviews and being declared 'essential'

So I ordered the individual reissues of the 7 officially Virgin-released albums that are a part of the set.
Well, at least they were only 5 euro each.

AND NOW they have announced that they are repressing the bloody thing and it comes out (again) in August.

Bugger.

Time to break open the piggy bank (again). :confusion-helpsos:

The first of the new TD remaster series is in: 'Ricochet'.

Finally Virgin have taken the Tangs catalogue seriously and put real effort into the sound and packaging.

'Ricochet' is an album carefully assembled from recordings made during a tour, a seamless musical collage that is an incredible journey through a strange other universe - or so it felt to the teenage me hearing this and 'Stratosfear' and 'Force Majeure' for the first time.

These albums not only made a synth-fan of me, they also ignited my audiophile obsession, wanting to hear more phasing, every oscillation, each layer of driving sequences.

At last I get the idea that I can get right inside the sonics of these classic recordings which have always felt a bit flat and unsatisfying before, on the various CD editions anyway.

Now, about that big box....

I saw them on that very tour. Froese, Franke, Baumann, great light show and quadraphonic sound. :)
It was very trippy.

TD played York minster in the 70's i think. A guy i have known for years (pub friend) said he went, chemically altered of course

He got me into Can. He let me borrow some of his LP's and future days was a favourite for quite a while

I had short hair in the mid-‘70s so I was able to go see The Tangs one weekend and Dr Feelgood on another.

Many thanks for your erudite observations.

You will be relieved to hear that I too am a great admirer of Brian Eno.

Working through the TD 'Sessions' series and now at part IV.

Image

Two long improvised pieces recorded during concerts in Norway and Italy during 2018.

Superb. Really. Berlin school at it's best.

Tangerine Dream - THE SESSIONS IV (full album)

The second track especially, when the sequencers kick in at around the 13-minute mark then you are swept into a musical rollercoaster that is truly breathtaking.
