The bit I heard on the radio was absolute crap in my opinion and lacked that 'sound' of oxygene and Equinox too, although that could well be the Beeb fecking around with the sound at their end, as they seem to do on a daily basis - I use the tuner a lot these days...
Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way...The time has gone, The song is over, Thought I'd something more to say...

'Oxygene 3' ; just had a couple of listens to this and - well, it ain't bad and it ain't great.

Positive: Great recording quality, lovely analogue tones and effects. Awesome on headphones.
Negative: Lack of tunes, bit 'modern' sounding.

All in all it is a pleasant affair, being moodier and more laid-back than 'Oxygene 7-13' and an obvious attempt to recapture the atmosphere and feel of the original album.

Might well be a 'grower' though - when you've played it a few times and stop comparing it, it could well stand up on its own. Certainly NOT a poppy and weak effort (and JMJ has done a couple of those!) but a worthy look back to past glories.

From this week's Groove Music Newsletter:

First of all a brand new Vangelis a new 13CD box set, called Delectus,
will feature all of Vangelis‘ Vertigo and Polydor albums – including
the Oscar winning Chariots Of Fire – newly remastered (from the
original first generation master tapes) ever under the legendary
composer’s own supervision.

As well as the albums Earth, L’Apocalypse Des Animaux, China, See You
Later, Antarctica, Mask, Opera Sauvage, Chariots of Fire, Soil
Festivities and Invisible Connections, Delectus also features
recordings with Jon Anderson as ‘Jon & Vangelis’. These are Short
Stories, The Friends of Mister Cairo, and Private Collection.
Additionally, this set features four bonus tracks, one of which,
Neighbours Above (on the See You Later disc) is previously unreleased.

Delectus is presented as an outer box which contain two large die-cut
wallets to hold all of the discs and a 64-page book, with essays, and
rare photos. The image suggests a poster may be included as well.

Speaking about the new box, Vangelis said “I always welcome
remastering my old work for two basic reasons. Firstly, I get the
opportunity to bring the sounds to today’s standards, secondly, it
gives me the chance to go through the experiences and memories of the time.”
Delectus will be released on 3 February 2017.

Price for the set looks to be around the 100 euro mark for me, but there are a couple of favourites here - I've been waiting for years to get a decent remaster of 'Soil Festivities' which is one of my most-used Hifi test discs.
And all the Jon & Vangelis albums are here too, don't have them (just a best-of sampler).
Also 'Invisible Connections' is very difficult to find, having only been released on the classical Deutsche Grammofon label.

Forthcoming:

Image

Cherry Red's Esoteric label will be reissuing an expanded and remastered version of Tim Blake's 'Crystal Machine' in March.

Blake was the synth-man in Gong during their classic 'Angel's Egg' period, then he went solo and produced this album which is regarded as THE seminal British EM record.

Absurdly hard to find a copy of this (I've been after it for years),
you lot can get in the queue behind me. :guiness;

had to right a wrong and mention the (sadly (long) departed) american Arthur Russel, if you like your EM on the droning side try his 'World of Echo' album (as with most artists who gain fame after they died his albums tend to be compilations of dug-up material with hits and misses (but always a few gems)) - try Tone Bone Kone (short & sweet), Soon To Be Innocent Fun / Lets See (the one that got me hooked), and Hiding Your Present From You. it's scary to think he was making this music in the 70s/80s, especially now we're (endlessly) exposed to the same derivative-recurring realityTV/boygirlband shiteMusic. :angry-screaming:

i'd also propose Tilt onwards Scott Walker - it's as much EM as any other genre (and who needs genres when you've got genius? Tilt's 20 years old and it's still years (decades?) ahead)
nva a80s, a40s (mk1s), p90sa + phono1 mm, phono1 mc, ls5s, monopulse 32As (early), sony6750, lenco75 (all modded to some degree or another), homebrew pi Zero digital end / cd ripping station, homebrew interconnects, bmu (wip), garage conversion (wip)

Arthur Russell is not a name I know - but I am a HUGE admirer of Scott Walker, even if the more recent releases take a lot of work to get into.
