Sorry Fretless - didn't mean at all they were all indulgent and I still listen to a bunch of the Yes albums and some of the other stuff too.

Though in the BBC interview I mentioned previously even he admitted that some of it was a bit pants! But gotta respect his talent and his ability/drive and after all, he's the one with the zillions in the bank, so fair play to him.

So in musical Wakeman penance I will now listen to one of either: The Six Wives of Henry XIII, Journey to the Centre of the Earth, or the Myths and Legends of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table or even Rick Wakeman's Criminal Record (1977 album, yes really)... Hmmm.

And on the prog theme - Radio 3 just played Keith Emerson's 1st Piano Concerto - a musical choice of Stuart Maconie; that was a new one on me - but let's not get drawn into a discussion of whether ELP were also occasionally indulgent.

ELP - Works Vol 1 (double LP), has the piano concerto on it. very 'Emerson,' but that's a good thing for me :)
Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way...The time has gone, The song is over, Thought I'd something more to say...

For the more musically open-minded. The new remastered 'Six Wives of Henry VIII' is a joy to listen to. The old A+M version was horribly compressed and the sound is now clean and spacious.
There is also an informative essay about the recording process and this is a must for Yes fans, the whole band is here except for Jon Anderson. All prog fans and those who like classical/rock crossovers, this is one of the cornerstones of the genre.
Enjoy!

Being a keyboard player of yore Wakeman was always a hero of mine along with Emo (more so). However, having been a victim of his people {PR press agent etc) whilst i was organising the first Progmeister festival a few years ago and his persistant appearances on watchdog and the likes the man lost all credibility with me. Great musician and for that i admire him. However, he is the Clarkson of the keyboards and for that i despise him. Give me Emo any time. He's hands might be f....d but he's the real deal!

Manfred Mann. Tony Banks. I used to be obsessed by keyboard players, luckily we have the legacy of many great albums to enjoy. :guiness;
