Metal, in all its infinite varieties

I have recently taken a huge liking to what is described as "Symphonic Metal" which, fairly obviously, melds heavy metal with symphonic elements e.g operatic-type soprano lead singers and string sections. I'll not bore you with a plethora of examples, but to give you an idea (and hopefully a taste for the style) I'll just post a couple below...

What has really blown my mind though, are the number of sub-categories of 'metal" I've discovered while researching relatively obscure, and quite often Scandinavian for some reason, Symphonic Metal bands. Check this list out...

Loads of metal Slinger, and the vast majority of which you mention does indeed seem to stem from the Scandinavia areas.
Watched a documentary a while ago about it - And boy do those Viking mob take it seriously.....Whole lot of crime/murders over it all......
A lot of it is so heavy and deep its torture - but a load of nice stuff too, as yer clips show.....

Sludge, Doom and Stoner are my favourite 'metals' Some hardcore bands are quite interesting in their sound too.

There was a study done in 1991 in California where 12 psychiatric facilities were contacted with a made-up story where the researchers said:
"My son John has me worried. He's 15 and in the last year or so he's started listening to that Heavy Metal music and I'm concerned"
They made it clear that their (hypothetical) son was not:
suicidal
violent
depressed
using drugs or alcohol
neglecting his school work

83% of the facilities believed that John needed psychiatric hospitalization.

There was a study in 2015 of middle-aged people had been Heavy Metal fans, groupies and musicians in the 1980's.

It found that "metal enthusiasts did often experience traumatic and risky “sex, drugs, and rock-n-roll” lives. However, the “metalhead” identity also served as a protective factor against negative outcomes. They were significantly happier in their youth and better adjusted currently than either middle-aged or current college-age youth comparison groups. Thus, participation in fringe style cultures may enhance identity development in troubled youth."

Sorry, not into metal, well Aluminium/Copper alloys are fine as is Titanium and CRES but that's not what you mean!
