I think mine was at Crystal Palace in 1972 when I got to see The Beach Boys, with Elton John guesting on keyboards. It's a close run thing though, as I was at the (in)famous "Stones in the Park" gig in '69, and saw Floyd in Hyde Park in '70. I'll stick with the Beach Boys though, simply because I thought they couldn't achieve a sound that was even close to their recordings and they proceeded to prove me wrong, big time. My mates and I managed to blag our way into the recording truck so not only did we get out of the rain we had an amazing view of the band.
Queen in Hyde Park (again) in '76 was pretty mind-blowing too, but I'll settle on this one. The full lineup for the day was Richie Havens, Sha-Na-Na, Melanie, Joe Cocker and the Chris Stainton All Stars, and The Beach Boys, and the ticket for the day (which I still have) cost a whole £1.75.

On reflection second place has to go to Pavarotti, also in Hyde Park, as I'm still living off of the brownie points I scored from the wife after 21 years.

I suppose it's pointless trying to convince anyone I was a mere babe in arms at the Stones gig in '69?
Actually, I was 15, but keep it to yourself.

For me it was 22/5/1973 Romford Odeon David Bowie this was my second gig and been into Bowie ever since my first gig was a free one somewhere local in Hornchurch Essex by a band called Planet Gong the atmosphere was great but the music was not to my taste we where all given a free LP called Camembert Electrique which most people dumped in some bins.

Never been to an iconic gig (see those two old fogies above), but loads and loads of really good ones. However towards the end of Th' Faith Healers @ the Princess Charlotte in Leicester in 1990 I had my first "Oh my god, this is amazing." moment.

Been to so many gig's over the years. could'nt name them all.......
The sensational Alex Harvey Band.
Jethro Tull.
Fish / Marrillion.
U2.
Van Morrison.
Led Zeppelin.
Richard Thompson.
Are just a few of the more memorable ones....... But the top 3 in no particular order would have to be.
Pink Floyd.
Joe Bonamassa.
E.L.O.
Each of these concerts were outstanding, not so much a concert....more an experience...!!!
And there are also a couple i regret not seeing.
Queen.
Frank Zappa.

Re: Share your favourite gig of all time.
Roger Chapman at Bradford when the Festival had a decent choice. There was a support act, Chappo and his band came on and did a set til about 10:30 - everyone cheared for more, so they came back on and did about another hour set; everyone shouted for more and they came back and did another half an hour. And all fantastic stuff - or at least it was when aided by a few pints.
I've done some of the big bands but not too many, for me, the smaller stuff is better. Like seeing Nick Harper for the first time.
