Recently Scott McKenzie passed away. Although Scott was a noted songwriter (e.g. Beach Boys - Kokomo) he will be remembered most vividly for the "one hit wonder" of San Francisco (be sure to wear some flowers in your hair) - a beacon call to everyone in my age-group. Scott, you were personally responsible for my kaftan. God bless you, and may you rest in peace man.

That is indeed a beautiful song, it transports me back to a time of free love and hippies and I wasn't even there! (well I was but just a toddler!). 8-)

August 17th saw the loss of a huge (in every sense) talent - Carlo Curley. Carlo styled himself as "The Pavarotti of the Organ" and passed away at the age of 59.
If you've never heard of him this obit in The Telegraph is a great albeit belated introduction to a larger-than-life performer.

I was saddened to hear of the passing of Huw Lloyd Langton, guitarist with Hawkwind, on Thursday of this week. Huw died at the age of 61 after a 2 year battle with cancer.

I'm sad to report that Kevin Ayers has passed away, aged 68. Kevin was a founding member of Soft Machine and went on to perform both solo and with his band as Kevin Ayers and The Whole World. He was also a member, if that's the right word, of the whole Canterbury scene of the sixties which also spawned the likes of Caravan, Gong, and Hatfield and the North. Quintessentially English, Kevin Ayers was another little part of my youth and will be sadly missed. Time for me to put on "Joy of a Toy" I think, and remember...

Probably not your "muscial myopia" DQ, more likely your youthfulness.

The man who lit up Woodstock, for me at least has died. Alvin Lee, lead guitarist with Ten Years After has passed away aged 68 from "unforeseen complications following a routine surgical procedure," according to a message from family members on his website. http://www.alvinlee.com/

The BBC reported his passing like this... http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-21688814

Alvin's later body of work is equally brilliant, but it's still this '69 performance that I keep going back to. An 11 minute lesson on how to play a Gibson 335, or any other guitar for that matter.

Clive Burr, original drummer with Iron Maiden has died, after a long illness.

Burr, who had multiple sclerosis, died "peacefully in his sleep at home" in London on Tuesday, the band said on their website.

R.I.P. Storm Thorgerson. If you don't know who Storm was then this might give you a clue...

...or simply do a Google image search on his name and prepare to be amazed.
