Disturbed - The Sound of Silence.

It is a great cover version from a good band. Saw them perform it at Dowload in 2016 and it was the highlight of their set.

Rush 'Signals' (1982)

Image

From the 'Rush Remasters' CD edition and a huge sonic step up from the earlier Phonogram version that I had.

Always one of my personal favourites with a batch of tightly-written and consummately-performed songs that typify Rush at their very best.
And I'm getting a truckload more detail from this disc.

Rush 'Exit ... Stage Left' (1981)

Image

Regarded as the worst-sounding official release of their career, although I'd put 'Rock in Rio' in that category as well. However this 1997 remaster does its best to improve matters over the horribly anaemic earlier CD issue.

Recorded on the 'Moving Pictures' tour and featuring material from that album and 'Permanent Waves'. The sound is now meatier and more solid, revealing muscular and impassioned performances. Finally this disc can join the rest of my collection without having to be ashamed of itself.

The change in direction caused a stir. I recall the letters page in Kerrang being filled with correspondence from horrified fans, "bloody reggae". I was left a bit cold but it became a grower because of the sheer quality of the songs.

Have always preferred All the worlds a stage to Exit stage left.
