Fox me!

....

Don't know why I'm posting on this thread - wot with seeing all the ABSOLUTE SHOITE you cretins are listening to.

But gotta tell SOMEONE/ANYONE about this lp I just found for a mere $3.

FUNKY JUNCTION "PLAYS THE MUSIC OF DEEP PURPLE" ('73, UK)

Now, I used to laugh, along with the other clowns, about how bad this lp is. I take it all back (and not only becaause I just snagged a copy).
When people mock this lp it HAS to be for the one track: "Dan". Yep, its an instrumental version of that old conk...wait for it..."Danny Boy"! And some pretty bad electric guitar also.

Well, I guess Danny Boy would be appropos for an IRISH band, and indeed they are for this mystery band is 3/5ths Oyerish. Indeed its THIN LIZZY on hard times!
3 members Lizzy and two from Elmer Fudd.

A Deep Purple discography of the 80s promulgated the myth that this here Funky Junction was the band Hard Stuff (on Deep Purple's own Purple label.)
and there was a Germany release titled , "The Rock Machine plays the best of Deep Purple and other hits" . Well that last bit might well be cos the notorious Leo Muller (whom I spoke of here beefwhore) was in the habit of releasing budget lps (this one on the el-cheapo UK label, Stereo Gold Award).
So we know its not Hard Stuff....... but should have been called Hard Times cos Thin Lizzy were certainly in that boat. German Leo offered them a pittance to record this, so he could , as usual exploit a fad. Indeed Leo is credited on the album - more than Muller did for many a band on his various exploito labels.

Anyways, like I says, its a pretty good lp. 5 of the 9 tracks are Purple covers: Hush, Speed King, My Woman From Tokyo (Ive always disliked this song),Fireball and Hard....err sumfink. Then there is Dan, and absolutely super instrumental version of House of Rising Sun, another instrumental (with synth) which I cannot place and, the last track, a curious inclusion of the old blues track (wot Dylan covered), "Corrina ,corrina".
