Listening to the new Pat Metheny: "Unity Band". Saxophonist on board. Well recorded and as tasteful as always, but a bit bland, this one...

Been using spotify on a squeezebox Touch lately to search out some new stuff so the last things I listened to were:
The Cowboy Junkies - Caution Horses - love her voice
Yo Yo Ma - Inspired by Bach, cello symphonies - a bit samey but great if you are in the mood for that sort of stuff.
Boz Scaggs - Silk Degrees - Well I still remember the seventies
Leonard Cohen and Tom Waits - FM radio Cohen and Waits - I wanted to hear some Cohen as I think I am missing out here and Tom Waits is obvioulsy God with a penchant for hats!

Been trying to sort out my heap of paperwork today, (so why am I on here? I know, I know...), and so far today there's been:
Keb Mo - Keb Mo
Paul Simon - Rhythm of the Saints
Mary Black - Full Tide
June Tabor - Rugged Kingdom
Hue & Cry - Bitter Suite
Joe Walsh - Analogue Man

Find myself listening to a lot of The Beautiful South at the moment.

Lifts the mood somewhat.

Funk Off "Jazz On". An Italian marching jazz band. (At least according to t'interweb and YouTube). They sound fantastic. And I really want to see them.

Early Donovan stuff, very nice naive recordings.

Trip to the charity shop today. Since getting the TFS I'm encouraged once again to explore. (And,yes,I do have Spotify, but I can't break the physical browsing habit.) So far, The Corrs, In Blue - bought because of the acoustic versions: ok. Chartlotte Church, Issues and Tissues: made for radio, best forgotten. Beth Nielsen Chapman, Sand and Water: now this is more like music, this sounds like someone singing and playing instruments and not so much like a producer's version of what something sounds like. So, I feel browsing is vindicated: I would never have hit on this otherwise.

Later still. Kodo Taiko Drummers, Monochrome. The best thing about listening to this is that it captured something of the live performance. I find it difficult to describe this piece, it isn't like any other piece of music I can think of; even other taiko drum music. This is incredibly subtle, precise and musical stuff, and something of that came through. If I ever find something that can sound likethe live performance in a domestic room, I'll want 5o buy it.

Emily Barker and Red Clay Halo 'Almanac'. Alright I bought it because of the theme tune but 'Pause' really is a fine track and the rest is pretty good at first hearing.
