There is a currrent wave of artists, mainly Scandanavian, who straddle the worlds of Electronic and Classical music, producing works of astonishing emotion and beauty. Synth effects running alongside string quartets and sequencer-driven symphony orchestras. Think of Johan Johannsson, Max Richter or Nils Frahm.

On the list is also Iceland's Olafur Arnalds. Who prefers to record all his strings in a little church in Iceland which has the perfect acoustic resonance.

His soundtrack for the utterly gripping series 'Broadchurch' is a work that stands up for itself as a CD with the mood both threatening and haunting. I have more of his albums on the way. Highly recommended.
