Hum issue
We have a problem with our Broadband connection (engineer coming on Monday) so I spun some vinyl. There is hum from one speaker which is noticable from close up but not from the listening position. It was not their the last time I played a record which was some time ago. I have done a !ot of tinkering with my digital set up in the mean time so I had a look at the cables to and from the Phono 1. I made sure nothing was touching and tightened the earth connection, but the issue remained. I suspect it could possibly be to do with the arm wiring of the Rega Planar 3 I have had for 37 years. As it is not audible from the listening position and I do not play much vinyl it is not a big problem, but I am curious as to the cause. The cartridge is a high output Denon moving coil which I have had for eleven years with low use.

Re: Hum issue
Does the hum disappear if you remove the turntable phono plugs from the phono 1 and does it swap channels if you reverse the turntable phono plugs? If no, then the turntable is fine, so then try swapping the cables from the phono 1 into the amp to see if the hum stays on the left or moves to the right hand channel.

Re: Hum issue
Very helpful and interesting results. The hum remained when I removed the turntable phono plugs and it moved to the other channel when I swapped them. When I swapped the cables from the Phono 1 to the pre amp the hum completely disapeared. I do not know what is going on.Garrardspinner wrote: ↑Fri Jul 03, 2020 7:50 am Does the hum disappear if you remove the turntable phono plugs from the phono 1 and does it swap channels if you reverse the turntable phono plugs? Re: Hum issue
If the hum didn't come back when you returned the connections to their normal configuration it was probably a high resistance connection to the screen (outside) of the connector.CN211276 wrote: ↑Fri Jul 03, 2020 10:11 amVery helpful and interesting results. Seems to be correct, technicalities lost on me.Geoff.R.G wrote: ↑Fri Jul 03, 2020 1:33 pmIf the hum didn't come back when you returned the connections to their normal configuration it was probably a high resistance connection to the screen (outside) of the connector.CN211276 wrote: ↑Fri Jul 03, 2020 10:11 amVery helpful and interesting results.
