Thanks everyone, I have an AT strobe disk on its way to me, I concluded there's less to wrong with disk. I would be very interested to know the name of strobe light phone app, that sounds just great, thanks Paul

Geoff I think what DQs has is not a strobe lamp but an optical tacho 🤔

Sorry DQ, a problem with associating posts (located between my ears).

For what it is worth the few pennies required to print a stroboscope disc and use a mains powered lamp is by far the cheapest option. The, tongue in cheek suggestion of using an oscilloscope is probably the most accurate, and will show up drive irregularities.
