New Turntable wanted

Don't know if I will get another tt, but am pissed of with my Pink Triangle PTtoo. I am forever adjusting/levelling the platter, and also the belt comes off on a fairly regular basis, especially when the hole in the centre of the LP is tight on the spindle. For those that don't know, the platter has to come off and the belt put in place, but you have to place a piece of string inside the belt and pull while you lower the platter in place and then hook the belt over the drive wheel, what an f###ing clat.
Ok then, if you needed to replace your tt with something easy to use/set-up, that cancels out all suspended/springy nonsense decks what would you go for with a budget of £1000, preferably less. I do have the Rega arm which I could transfer over. One more thing, I tried a Technics SL150 and it was out performed by the PT, so my preference is probably belt drive. I am not after a typical analogue sound, prefer lean and mean.

A Gyro is leaner than most. It has springs but, once set, rarely needs attention.

The most cost effective deck which is so good you won't miss the pt is the lenco.

You can pick one up for 120-160, but it will need sorting and a plinth.
You can pick up a sorted one for 400 to 800.

The Lenco would certainly be my choice, but I wouldn't describe it as lean.

Thank for all the replies so far. I have never heard a Technics SL1210 Paul, but having had a SL150, the bass was a little overpowering for me and would describe the sound as thicker compared to the PT. I have of course thought about Ant's Lenco's but asked this question anyway.

You should be able to pick up a Rega RP8 with an Apheta for less than £1k which should meet your requirements.

There’s a tempting proposition on eBay at the moment. A Pioneer PL71 currently at £100. Needs a counterweight, lid and a cartridge. I’m tempted to get it for spares for my pair of PL71s.

Of course it may simply be a case that the belt has stretched and you need a new one. The belt on my TD160 got that way and, although it played perfectly well it took a while to get up to speed. A new belt solved that.

It's a new belt Geoff, and yesterday when trying to play a 200g LP the platter dropped and was just touching the plinth.

Ah, OK then, not the belt. I don't know anything about your turntable but I would guess the bearing or its mountings are at least part of the problem.

I can't offer any suggestions as to a replacement but I hope you find something suitable.
