+1 Why not just use Spotify's own Android app, or am I missing something?Vinyl-ant wrote: ↑Wed Feb 19, 2020 4:03 pm Just get an old android phone, a phono to 3.5mm jack lead, plug into the phone headphone socket on the phone and the other end into the amp and use Spotify or whatever.
Simple, dunno if the sound quality will be up to standard for whoever will be using it, I do this every now and again with YouTube playlists

This, plus a DAC, job done.
that is what my girlfriend and I use for convenience, but dont need a dac.
chromecast audio set up on both android phones when install google home from the store
take a 3.5mm to RCA lead. the rca lead is connected to my pre amp
this then enables anything that has audio in it to be "casted" to the crhomecast audio device.
I can't use a dac as the chromecast audio only hardware output is a 3.5mm socket.
I've not looked at more expensive Chromecast range, but if one had an optical out that bypassed the chromeast dac I would use that.

Re: Android music streaming
It does have an optical out. The 3.5mm our also doubles as a digital optical out. It’s dual function.
The unit does suffer from a bit of jitter, and a good DAC sorts it out, and really improves presentation.
I’ve got a spare Toppings D30, so job done.

It’s about getting the audio into and out of the hifi, with optimal sound quality.
Chromecast audio allows the connection from the phone to hifi, plus the DAC out means you get the best quality audio possible. Audio travels through internet connection, not Bluetooth, so no compression or adulteration of the signal.
The difference between doing it this way Vs Bluetooth is night and day.
