At Christmas we received an Amazon echo from my daughter "bless her" as I possibly drove her and her brother mad with my music constantly being played in the house. Since then it's been in the kitchen and used regularly , what surprised me was how easy it is to listen to. Not " hifi" I know but remarkably pleasant for such a small device, it also has the ability to sound good wherever you are in the room. How do they do that? Plus I get voice control  not suggesting anyone should get one :-? But it is far better than the "radio" that was there before! Currently listening to " smooth jazz " not everyone's single malt but heyho I like it.

Agreed. I heard one when visiting my step daughter in Dublin. Not hifi but not unpleasant. She asked for some Aerosmith for me and Alexa put it on.

I have an Echo and as you say its quite good but a step up is the Sonos One speaker, paired (stereo) they are more capable than a department store hifi. We now have several Sonos One speakers but only the one Echo. The sonos One is however more expensive.

I've got them throughout the place, including an "original" Show in the living room, a Show 5 in the kitchen, and a Show 8 on my bedside table. They control all of the lights in the house apart from anything else, and they make brilliant alarm clocks.

What are you doing sleeping in the kitchen?

I have been tempted by a couple of Sonos speakers for my house, but as long as my Bose sounddock keeps working, I don’t see the need.
