It's time for another purely Subjectivist test from yours truly, the Network Neurotic. :geek:

Just tried swapping the bog-standard CAT6 cable (bought from a DIY store) that feeds the Tinkerboard with a CAT5e link that came with an interactive TV box. Neither is a special 'audiophile' cable.

CAT5e is muffled, flat, lacks detail/sparkle and has a narrower soundstage.
CAT6 sounds fuller, richer, wider and far more vital and dynamic.

Looking forward to the AQ Cinnamon CAT7 'audiofool' lead that will hopefully be in by the end of the week.
 :guiness; :ugeek:

As an AQ fanboy, I'll be very interested in your thoughts on the Cinnamon. My Blue Jeans Ethernet is, I think, a success.

I am also very interested. Thinking of giving the low cost Cat 8 a try.

On a general streaming note:

Sonos have just announced that they will be discontinuing new software updates to older devices from May 2020.

Units like the Sonos Connect that I still have in use will continue to work but will not receive access to any new services and could lose their access to Spotify, Tidal etc. if those change in any way.

Time to move to newer hardware or other equipment...... Didn't I have some Pi players lying around somewhere?

Discontinuing software updates ? Reminds me of a money grabbing company called Microsoft.

Something to do with the older hardware not having sufficient processing power for new and more complex programming.

Older Sonos models can only handle 16bit streams and maybe newer ones are more hi-res capable.

Yup, and because of the end of Win 7 security updates a migration to Linux is underway.( I dislike win 8.1 & 10)

Ethernet cables and switches are attracting attention. This and the links are interesting.

There is a link to a comparison of switches in Dutch which Fret might have seen. The two ahead of the Silent Angel cost considerably more.
