Do you have a preference between ported or sealed box speakers?
If so, which do you prefer?

Re: Ported or sealed box speakers. Which do you prefer?
Definitely prefer sealed box. I know they technically dont have as much low output but they do roll off at a shallower rate below Fs than ported.
I don't dislike other methods but prefer sealed. I have some transmission line speakers that i used for 20 years and still like.

Re: Ported or sealed box speakers. Which do you prefer?
I love sealed boxes, because they allow wall placement due to the slow roll off below Fs, and you can have much bigger drivers and cabs (in my case 12 inchers) in the room than a ported speaker would allow.
The bass is quick, even and agile, with no boom, even in a small room like mine.
Of course one could design a ported speaker able to be placed near a wall, but IMO, the quality /texture of bass instruments would still not be as good as that available from a sealed box

Re: Ported or sealed box speakers. Which do you prefer?
I like the tighter, faster bass and the sharper imaging of sealed cabinets.
These changes were very evident when I modded a couple of pairs of small speakers.

Do you like your bass drivers pointing forwards upwards or down ?

Sideways
But seriously. The upward-firing Cube design does do that activating-the-room-acoustic thing.

Sealed boxes definitely my preference.
Currently using semi omni's. Home made from 18mm birch ply, built to the dims of Alinson 6's and inspired by the Doc's cubes, with upward radiating Monacor 8" carbon coned mid bass drivers and forward radiating Visaton G20 SC soft domes. Just love them!

Re: Ported or sealed box speakers. Which do you prefer?
While I would say that "generally" I have preferred sealed enclosures I have also come across other designs I've liked. I even had some large transmission lines that I really liked! I'd guess it's as much about application as anything else. So it's "No preference" for me I guess.
Audio Grail "Sable" Garrard 401 with Cumbrian Green Slate plinth / Audiomods 6 / Benz Micro Gullwing SLR, Phono 2, NVA INT400sa. (Oh and a Copland CDA823 CD Player, for when I fancy a bit of the devil's spawn!)
