...what with the new DAC

The new AV amp...

And trying to corner the market in AudioQuest leads. There was also the Forest USB lead, and one of Stan's optical interconnects that weren't boxed, and the AudioQuest speaker cable that arrives on Thursday, and the AudioQuest SureGrip 100 BFA Plugs I've bought to replace the existing plugs.

I looked at the possibility, but my wallet talked me out of it when it saw that WireWorld going for £24.00

Got it on my 'wish list' at AliExpress but am wondering how the SQ is with the State-of-the-art processing chips and double transformers?

It's still early to judge it, and there's a new digital lead and new RCA interconnects to contend with too. All of them have A) contrived to make the system sound different, and B) still to finish "burning in" or whatever the current phrase for sanding off the rough edges off of the music is. At the moment, the system sounds better than it did with the SMSL M8 in, and I think it probably did even before I put the new leads in. I'm currently listening to some very nice Bach and am very happy with the progress of the system. but next week I'll hopefully have the new speaker cable set up, which, although it should already be burned in (because it's used) will probably make the system sound different again. It might be another few weeks before I can really judge how the whole thing sounds with any degree of neutrality on my part. I'm cautiously pleased for the moment though.

Thanks for that Slinger. I had the M8 in my sights as well but might wait for an advantageous offer on the Weiliang / Breeze unit.

The SMSL M8a 3rd (v3) has a single ES9038Q2M chip. The original M8 had a single ES9018Q2M, and the M8A an ES9028Q2M.

Are you, perhaps, talking about the SMSL SU-8, which has dual ES9028Q2M chips? That's sort of on a par with the Topping D50. The one I've got is closer to Topping D70 territory.

There is a used M8A going cheap. But I'll be hanging on for something with ES9038PRO for now.
