I have a pair of Avondale Alpha 8s, forerunner of the NCC200. I also have a pair of Avondale NCC220s and a nearly finished pair of NCC300s.
In the back room I have fully rebuilt pair of Musical Fidelity P140s. I have another stashed away somewhere along with a Rogers Cadet. Just remembered I have a Beard P101 too!

Some fine amps in that list, and ohhh those prices.....
Hindsight but I wish I had stockpiled a few of the choicier gems.

Yes, I do sometimes ponder how I might have done things differently back then had I spent more money on quality items rather that losing money on a whole series of marginal improvements with successive items. The Sansui AU101 (one of the Doc's favourites) was an obvious starter amp. But back then (as perhaps now) marketing figures tended to rule decision making far too often.

I read that a while ago. Loads of guesswork in the opinions but fascinating to see the prices.

The AU 101 was a great amp. When I sold it the buyer was that pleased to get it I knew I made a mistake. Much better than 15W rating suggested. Changed it for a more powerful and inferior sounding model (Rotel I think). When you look at prices in the early 70s general inflation would suggest a modern amp would be several hundred rather than several thousand as is common now.
