Cartridge for Doc's G99/Neat
Cartridge for Doc's G99/Neat
A little premature but hey ho it's good to think about these things...
You may have seen that I'm buying Doc's G99 minus headshell/cartridge and I know he used a Gold SPU on it so I am pretty much set on just going out and buying a current SPU for it. However, the only real basis for that is I know it'll fit and I think they look great.
Any advice or thoughts please?

The entry range SPU is around £600 iirc.Daniel Quinn wrote: ↑Mon Aug 19, 2019 10:27 am Denon deosnt grow on the spu tree which he said he was looking at.
The Denon is not an SPU but it has some similarities - low compliance (which would suit the NEAT arm) and a similarly full flavoured sound. Not as refined as the SPU but good fun.
Vinyl-Ant would be a good guy to ask regarding cartridges for that arm...

You lot don't like your high frequencies do you? :D
I'd sooner look to Hana or AT MC's myself as the Neat arm has no bias correction amongst other things. An AT-F7 should be ample for this particular deck and tonearm, which I got to know quite well after the initial build and I tried several different cartridges in it. RD played with a Grado Black One for a while ant in his listening area, I didn't find it hugely lacking compared to the SPU particularly. Grado's like 1.6g tracking and in the past, very little bias correction too.
