To be honest I no nothing of soberly etc but get the " jist" was thinking that by taking the pre out from the rega direct to sub and not "daisy chaining " the cubetts" via the sub ,not sure if that's the right term? I would be removing any influence the subs amp, crossover had?

Main thing is that you're happy with the result now - the rest is tweaking and experimentation.

My motto is - lf it works, leave it alone.
(Until you get an unbearable urge to change something). 8-)

Please read soberly as zobel! Autocorrect. To be fair though either could apply

Delighted the sub went to a good home. Great to meet you Ron.

With regards to dialling in the sub, I much prefer using the crossover in the sub itself. It’s easier to balance when your volume is variable, and the crossover relieves the speakers of the frequencies they don’t excel at, giving a more relaxed and open sound (IMHO).

If you have the sub running away from the speakers (not using the crossover), it’s much harder to balance, and you don’t get the benefit of relieving to speakers of low frequencies, so less of a tonal improvement. This method of running the sub is more tuned to home cinema.

I’ve run that very sub with Quad ELS57’s for years, and I always enjoyed the Quads way more with the Rel than without.

It takes a while to Dual the Rel in ‘just so’, and I’ve struggled finding a manual for a MK1 Rel Strata, but spend the time with it, use its crossover, listen/tweak/listen/tweak, and it’ll reward you.

It usually takes me a weekend to dial it in, with occasional minute adjustments. Once it’s ‘just so’, you never have to touch it again.

Happy to come help you do it if you like.

Enjoy!
