I have Cube 1s in the main system and Cubetes in the bedroom. The sound signature is similar with the Cube 1s providing more authority and weight. Both are very responsive to the quality of the source.
Main System
NVA BMU, P90SA/A80s (latest spec), Cube 1s, TIS, TISC(LS7)
Sonore OpticalRendu, Chord Mscaler & Qutest, Sbooster PSs
Network Acoustics Eno, ifi iPurifier3, AQ JB FMJ, Cisco 2940 & 2960
DH Labs ethernet, BNC & USB cables, Lindy cat 6 US ethernet cable

Second System
NVA P20/ A20, Cubettes, LS3, SSP, SC
Sonore MicroRendu, Chord Mojo 2 MCRU PSs, AQ Carbon USB cable & JB FMJ

Headphones
Grado SR325e/Chord Mojo, Beyerdynamic Avetho/AQ DF Colbat

Doping increases driver weight, which does reduce efficiency,...but dont confuse that with being 'hard to drive'. They are very easy to drive - if you dont need high volumes, the 20 series will drive them ¹easily.

They need to be closeish to a .wall. Lots in the archive about positioning. Most importantly, experiment. Let us know how you get on.
I actually think they are not an easy load and benefit from some serious watts (certainly in a largish room). Now maybe Richard grossly underspecified NVA amp output but swapping from 60W monoblocks (not NVA) to 500W integrated sure puts a bit more life into them and a bit more bass. Not enough to satisfy me so now have a couple of subs. Really budget priced but they do a great job in filling in the bottom end. It's probably me being accustomed to floor standers for 25 years and liking things fairly loud. They are certainly less the 90db efficient being harder to drive than the mission 752 I still have. Agree close up to a wall is essential and I suspect lower ceilings than my 9ft are beneficial.

What you all need is 12 inches (or more) to really feel the bass.

I agree. the BBCube and all Cubix models were in a different world to any of the smaller ones imo.

I'd suggest the load is a pretty easy one, but using a CD source rated at 2V max output, I found the Cubettes and up to Cube 2's, always needed a higher volume control setting than an equivalent small to medium size conventional speaker (JBL Control Ones in the case of the Cubettes and my '87db/W' IMF Compacts in the case of the Cube 2's and also the Doc-Mod speakers in B&W cases I tried here on two occasions). An A20 may well do low volumes, but I'd say there's little in reserve for Cubettes especially, the sound getting increasingly 'breathless' if you pushed this combo just a tiny bit too far I found (here as well as the 'Sidcup Workroom'). Background music's fine obviously, for me at least. YMMV of course here ;)

I have no volume issues with Cube 1s driven by A80s in what is a largish room. I live in a detached house and like to crank it up at times. The bass is deeper than what came out of a low cost sub I used to have. I am sure this is helped by the speakers being as close to the wall as posible, allowing for the toe in. It is a different matter with the A20 and Cubetes, but the bedroom system is for low level listening only.

Yep, never found the Cube 1s lacking for volume or bass.
