Re: Time the Slurpers are killed off
Not to me - I don't know the cost of parts and the labour involved.
I'm think of manufacturers selling direct. Are you and CN thinking of dealers selling stuff via the internet?

It seems the office of National Statistics don't consider hi-fi as being worthy of consideration any more when measuring inflation because it's been "replaced" by streaming.
So, less being sold = less slurp ?

Re: Time the Slurpers are killed off
A decision is made to price product for a full distribution network that involve distributor (sometime UK, mostly for export) they get 20 to 30%. They then pass it to retailers who puts about 50% on, so you can see how the price escalates. BUT it is getting harder for new companies to attract distributors and retailers so they also set up a website and sell direct. So because they are still hoping to create a distribution path for the product into the market they keep the daft extortionate price and if they manage to sell one then they are well in profit. They keep all the slurp.
Most are doing it this way, almost like an interim way, it is one of the reasons the slurp has gone so far. Very few companies me included ignore the selling mark ups and sell to end users at what would be distributor price for these other people.
If a price is silly then it is silly, it is easy to spot.

You make a decision on who to trust, based on all the available evidence.

I was thinking of models from Schiit and Metrum. Border Patrol are also quite pricey.

How do you know they are over priced?
You own a circa £5k dac / upscaler combo that you purchased through a dealer.

YET AGAIN I am getting things sent back with no note enclosed. Please understand if you don't enclose a note on opening the box it will just be put in what we call the naughty corner and ignored. I see it as pure rudeness to expect me to remember every conversation or email. I am far too busy.
