Such as?
I was thinking of models from Schiit and Metrum. Border Patrol are also quite pricey.
How do you know they are over priced?

You own a circa £5k dac / upscaler combo that you purchased through a dealer.
I dont know what the margins are and i consider the Mscaler to be seperate to a DAC. The general opinion of those who have compared is that the Chord Qutest beats the Schiit Yggi on SQ and it is considerably cheaper in the UK, with no doubt a considerable dealers margin, all the more so after what Brexit has done to the Pound.
Main System
NVA BMU, P90SA/A80s (latest spec), Cube 1s, TIS, TISC(LS7)
Sonore OpticalRendu, Chord Mscaler & Qutest, Sbooster PSs
Network Acoustics Eno, ifi iPurifier3, AQ JB FMJ, Cisco 2940 & 2960
DH Labs ethernet, BNC & USB cables, Lindy cat 6 US ethernet cable

Second System
NVA P20/ A20, Cubettes, LS3, SSP, SC
Sonore MicroRendu, Chord Mojo 2 MCRU PSs, AQ Carbon USB cable & JB FMJ

Headphones
Grado SR325e/Chord Mojo, Beyerdynamic Avetho/AQ DF Colbat

RIP Doc

We are not talking about sound quality, per se, that is a matter of subjective opinion, anyway. I'm sure a quick internet search would return many results for people who prefer Schiit dacs to Chord.

You have effectively said that 3 direct sellers are conning their customers by selling direct without removing some or all of the margins they would pay to dealers. Do you have any genuine insight or knowledge about those makers and their products to support your claim?

I am not saying that three direct sellers are conning their customers nor denying that some prefer the sound of Schiit, Metrum or Border Patrol. What I am saying is that a dealers margin, where a discount can be negotiated, does not always mean that the product is a rip off compared to an on line purchase. Brexit is also a value factor when purchases from outside the UK are concerned.

Why?

Why is it obvious that a £2k Schiit dac is a rip off but, say, a 2 metre length NVA TIS interconnect at £1100 is not a rip off?

Unless you have genuine knowledge then you are just guessing.

I'm not saying that either are a rip off, btw.

I couldn't give shit what people think about TIS, I KNOW how much they cost and cost plus is applied to them the same as everything NVA.

If people don't have the intelligence to judge then they will have to rely on the people who do.

If you put a piece of gear in front of me I will happily tell you if it is a bargain or a rip-off.

I don't understand the need for your defensiveness. I own two TIS cables, FFS...
