They are not rip-off retailers, so your point is?

That it’s a possibility that reality is nuanced, and another possibility is that reality can be perceived as coloured in many shades of grey.
Those are only possibilities though.

10% v 50% which is the rip off, it doesn't take much intelligence or maths.

Manufacturers have the choice of how they bring their products to market.

The majority of manufacturers continue to place their product through dealers, even though it has become possible to 'do it yourself' in terms of the mechanics. This means that manufacturers are either resistant to change or do not see their expertise being in selling, fulfillment and customer service and believe that dealers can do a better job of it.

I suspect we may see a halfway house of 'online agencies' or 'virtual dealers' who will tempt manufacturers with lower percentage takes. No high street shops but very well executed online offerings and fulfillment services.

Some people are pretty good all rounders, others are brilliant specialists.

Dealers don't just sell to customers they hold stock as well, which allows you to produce in volume and gain savings in production. It's far more nuanced a situation than dealers do nothing for their bit. Sure some overcharge for the service they offer, some don't. Swings and roundabouts.

It's a relatively free (as in liberal) country that we live in. Where we have relative freedom of speech.

This means that anyone can start a shop business where they sell hi-fi for 50% more than they paid for it.
It also means that anyine can walk into such a shop and buy what they can afford in cash or on credit.

And it means that no one is compelled to buy anything from that shop. Which is the camp that I have fallen into for a number of years now.

And it means that anyone can publicly comment that they think that the shop is a rip-off / slurp / too expensive / poor value for money / sells nothing at a price that would remotely make them interested in buying anything. We are all free to decide for ourselves whether such comments have merit or not. My vote would be that, on the whole, they do. I also think that buying hi-fi from a bricks and mortar High Street shop is a 20th Century throwback thing to do and that the modern way to buy hi-fi is online.

Difficult to know. Which sellers do you think sell direct but at retail prices?
