Could you host a speaker bake-off at your place? Followed by an amp bake-off?

In my experience musical grunt is largely determined by the speakers in a digital system. And by a combination of the source and speakers in an analogue system.

If the speakers are giving the amp a hard time it will sound like it.
And many speakers round off transients or are too lean or unextended in the bass. I hate boring or uninvoving speakers.

hifiseptic wrote: Fri Mar 01, 2019 7:08 pm Update, clarification of my previous posts." Not overdriving amps" (put to bed by " the doc") this was in reference to the little Cyrus, very easy to push beyond it's capabilities but when used within them very reveiling of change, more so than anything else I own. Not much of which would be considered "hi end" by anyone I'm sure. In answer to DSJR (see post) Mira is clamshell still manages to sound like it's in the other room? LP12 if you can suggest a deck that can better it for what it owes, would happily buy one. Recently spent few hundred quid on new springs, belt and Valhalla rebuild etc. As for getting "my head blown of by a musical amp" well there are many other bits I've owned not least the Tucan amp and Rega speakers I passed on to my son(still sound great in his home) when we downsized. Used to have a listening room (converted garage) now confined to spare bedroom! What I'm looking for is a system that works well at low level and just plays music sod the hifi. As for NVA all I can say is the ls1s and scc are Just amazing, as for not sure if scc was better than the chord cobra I'd been using, forget it! It's sooooo much better.
You know the answers you're going to get here? As others have said the Cyrus is Ok but not something special. Why not try the NVA A20 combo and find out. There were loads of better amps back then. Lp12 really could be bettered easily. You could have saved money on new springs etc and got a stupid amount for it on Ebay. Then have cash for something better. You will see plenty suggestions both new and vintage on this forum. You are listing products that left me feeling rather unimpressed 30 years ago. You have made a good start with the cables.

Get around and listen and decide for yourself - or don't, and just be happy. But remember YOU asked us.

You didn't seem to be showing interest in what was being recommended so I wondered why you asked. Let people give you advice but don't argue with them if you asked for that advice.
