They are all a trade off between distortion at the start and end and across the record. You can align for lowest RMS distortion across the record, align for less or more distortion towards the start or the end of the record and anything inbetween.
The VE arc protractors are superb if you wish to fiddle and know the numbers for arm length and spindle to pivot.
