Linn advertising on BBC

Unread post by CN211276 »

Caught up with the latest episode of the Apprentice. The location was Glasgow and not missing a trick the local mafia was on the scene, ostensibly as a corporate buyer but in reality for marketing purposes. Gilad T spouted the usual :Bllocks: about the excellence of their products, but when the contestants heard the kings ransom system they seemed very unimpressed. He was unable to hide his annoyance and came over as a right PRAT. And those trousers.

Yip the guy was a wanker. Thought he was going to implode when the girl told him music and sound was subjective.

Why would anyone of us wan't too?

I doubt it could be deemed affordable to the majority of HFS members.

Even if it's merely to confirm how bloody good 'our' cheaper stereo's are, it's good to hear other things. Come on John, part of your living relies on selling third party updates on their best known product. I can't afford one let alone aspire to owning one, but the current top spec LP12/Ekos Se/kandid/Radikal is way removed from the top 80's version, despite looking the same from outside.. I may not aspire to one, but I bothered to go and hear one to broaden my knowledge a little...

Dave, I can wholeheartedly agree with the first point you make in your response.

My business in selling some of what I deem to be upgrades for the LP12 (based on my experience of what to me "sounds very good") is basically just a hobby. I no longer push my products as I can no longer be bothered to counter the bullshit I hear. If people want my products then that's fine by me, on the other hand if they don't and prefer to be ripped off by Linn then that's their choice, thankfully right now it's still a free country. It's surprising how many come back to my products after saving up and moving too Linn's overpriced offerings but I digress.

I've listened to many high and systems touted as being the best since lived bread, but I remain unimpressed. I've plenty on other better things to be doing with my time nowadays than wondering how good or not Linn's top system "sound's".

Sorry Dave but that's my view.

The contestants in the Apprentice heard it and it would have been in their best interests to say they were impressed, towards the goal of winning the task. The fact they did not is further evidence that it is just grossly over priced bling. Gilad was pissed off and did not spend the 4K on their products. The programme was an own goal for Linn.

I think the fact that a bunch of audio "civilians" were unimpressed with the high end system is pretty telling. Knowing this, I can make confidently the suggestion, without even having listened to the system in question, that it was crap at communicating musically. I base this on the realisation, that the more I have made the sound of my own system resemble music rather than hi-fi, the better it has gone down amongst my own audio "civilian" friends.

It really isn't rocket science. If you want to get "normal" people to take a sound system seriously, then it absolutely has to be able to play music, otherwise you have to start making excuses, and talk about bass, treble, imaging, at which point the normal person simply switches off and goes away thinking you are a loony, especially if you've dropped tens of thousands of pounds on your high end hi-fi.

The system on The Apprentice was clearly not communicating musically with the listeners, otherwise they would have been blown away. Instead of getting mad and looking like a prat, maybe GT should actually go away and do some serious thinking.
