Vibrating CD player casing
Hi all,
I have a Cambridge Audio cxc cd transport and it sits nicely on a steady surface. The thing that bugs me is that at higher volumes I can feel the case vibrating (not the shelf). I am happy with it but the housing is a bit thin.
I would prefer it to be rock steady. Do you agree it needs to be fixed? If so, any ideas how best to try and dampen the casing?
Thanks

I am tempted to ask why you think it could be making a difference to anything. Does it do anything to the music.

Yes - things get a bit woolly. The complete works of Plato is keeping it steady at the moment.

I have one of these CD transports, and I'm sure my one does not vibrate.BrandonMarlow wrote: ↑Sat Jun 30, 2018 9:57 pm Hi all,

One thing that puzzles me, as a CD is rotated at a constant speed why would the case vibrate at higher volume levels ? The CD transport signal output is not volume control related, is it ?

Re: Vibrating CD player casing
Is the CXC on a wall shelf or picking up vibrations from the floor ?
Maybe decoupling will help - something like rubber.

The internal workings of the device are not causing an issue.valvesRus wrote: ↑Sat Jun 30, 2018 10:33 pmI have one of these CD transports, and I'm sure my one does not vibrate.

The sound waves (especially bass at higher volumes) from the loudspeakers hit things and make them vibrate. I rent my house so I cannot do much with the room. The digital signal output from the CD is constant - it is the amp volume I am talking about.
Buying a new cd player, as suggested earlier, is overkill - this is a fine unit otherwise.
Nevermind.

Get some bitumen damping pads, the kind used inside car doors.
Take the top off, stick them inside the top cover.
That will shut it up

Re: Vibrating CD player casing
If it is sympathetic resonance (a.k.a. sympathetic vibration) you're probably already doing the correct thing, with Plato. A heavy(ish) granite/marble worktop saver from Amazon etc. would do the job too, and perhaps look nicer As Fretless said, decoupling might also work, although I believe the CXC is already mounted on rubber feet.
