Is Tidal hi-fi worth the money, or is there better.

Tidal is well worth the extra £10 a month over compressed streaming services. The difference is night and day, although the likes of the Rev Martin T think otherwise. I recently changed to Qobuz sublime + which I prefer. However it is more expensive and payment is up front.

When I compared tidal and qobuz I preferred the latter for much wider selection of classical recordings. That was a couple of years ago, though.

Tidal has a slightly better catalogue for rock, but Qobuz is more responsive when you make a request for an album to be added. I also prefer the interface.

I use Tidal and find it has enjoyable sound quality through an Auralic Aries Mini - broadly comparable to
Lossless ripped CD’s

I like to stream new stuff and if I like it enough will generally buy a vinyl copy. Can’t kick the vinyl habit - but this method now stops me spending £20 when I might only like one or two tracks........
Pink Triangle PT1 / Funk FXR2 / AT33PTG mk2 / Graham Slee Reflex C / NVA P50SA & NVA A70mk2 / Audio Note AX2 / Auralic Aries Mini / Oppo 103 / NVA LS5 & SSC’s

Been round the block with music streaming services and ended up back with Tidal, the MQA albums do sound great (perhaps better mastering rather than voodoo?) but I don’t use the Tidal app. I use a Bluesound Vault and Node, one stable app for all my music across several rooms which the whole family can use.

As Copperblue say’s audio wise Tidal is as good as ripped CD which to me always sounds better than a CD Player.

With Bluesound there is an explicit filter function, very handy as I have lots of children, also considering Room at some point in the future which would tie in nicely with Tidal and Bluesound hardware.

I can't really comment on any streaming services other than Tidal. When I started with all that computer shenanigans, in recent years, I already had an MQA compatible device, which was an unintended bonus rather than an intentional decision, which influenced my choice more than a little. I'd say "HiFi" quality is certainly the equivalent of flac/wav files created from my own CDs but that "Master" seems quite an improvement on that. There sounds to be more life and transparency to it as far as my uneducated ears can tell. Apologies if my description of the sound is a little sparse but hifi waffle isn't really my forte.
